Important safety & legal notice
Mauritanian Eye does not facilitate, promote or arrange unauthorized wagon-top riding. We help with legal, locally confirmed logistics, passenger-carriage information, group coordination, transport and local support. Always verify current rules and conditions locally before going.
What to expect
Long stretches of open desert, biting cold at night, dust, wind and a sky full of stars. The freight environment is harsh and conditions are not guaranteed.
Most travellers ride one direction only and travel the other way by 4x4 or shared transport.
Legal travel options
- Passenger wagon — basic but enclosed, paid ticket. Availability and schedule must be confirmed locally.
- Ground transport along the corridor — Atar / Choum / Nouadhibou by 4x4 or shared vehicle with a local driver.
Plan it with local support
We strongly recommend coordinating with a local guide for timing, the loading area and safety. Use the Plan My Trip form and we'll connect you with verified partners for legal logistics.
