Our story
How a photography habit turned into a shared body of practical knowledge about Mauritania.
Photography first
Mauritanian Eye started with photography: showing Mauritania as it actually looks, away from clichés. The pictures brought questions — how do you get there, what does it cost in effort, what should you know before you go — and answering those questions honestly became the second half of the project.
From answers to structure
Individual answers do not scale. Over time the replies were turned into structured pages: destinations, regions, routes, activities and practical guides, each with a clear state of verification, so a reader can tell the difference between something checked on the ground and something read from an official source.
Community-driven
The project is community-driven. Travellers, locals, guides and operators contribute photographs, corrections and first-hand detail. Contributions are moderated before publication, and rights over submitted media are recorded.
We deliberately do not publish a dated timeline, launch dates, awards or growth figures. When there is a verified milestone worth recording, it will be added here with its source.
