Most travelers arrange a pickup in Nouakchott or Nouadhibou with their accommodation or operator.

Common on main corridors (e.g. Nouakchott → Atar, Nouakchott → Nouadhibou). Leave when full.

A few intercity bus operators run on main routes. Schedules change — confirm at the station.
4x4 driver
Recommended for desert routes (Atar → Chinguetti, Choum, Banc d'Arguin tracks).
Nouakchott → Atar
Approx. 450 km of paved road; shared taxis, buses and private 4x4 all run this corridor.
Atar → Choum
Desert track — best with a 4x4 driver who knows the area.
Atar → F'derik / Zouérat
Long desert route — multi-day, requires planning.
Nouadhibou → Choum / IOT
Most travelers reach the Iron Ore Train line from Nouadhibou with local coordination.
Accommodation
Plan a night before and after long transfers — schedules are not guaranteed.

Prices and timings change — figures are approximate when shown and must be confirmed locally.
