Adrar plateau

Terjit Oasis

A green refuge where warm and cold springs meet beneath a canopy of date palms.

Tucked into a canyon south-east of Atar, Terjit is one of the most cinematic oases of the Adrar. Two springs — one warm, one cool — feed a small pool fringed by palms. Local families maintain shaded shelters where you can spend a quiet afternoon or sleep under the stars.

Why go

For the silence, the shade, and the contrast — desert just outside, jungle inside. Perfect as a slow stop on the road to Chinguetti.

What to do

  • Bathe in the spring (modest clothing recommended).
  • Walk the canyon walls at golden hour.
  • Sleep in a traditional shelter and wake up to date palms.
